The imminent closure of the Illawarra Coke Company in Corrimal, NSW will sadly see Australia lose its last independent producer of metallurgical and foundry coke. Following a warning email in January from the Artist Blacksmiths Association NSW, Waterside formed an alliance with a number of other Victorian blacksmiths to allow a bulk purchase of 32 tonnes of premium grade peanut coke, ideally suited for artistic blacksmithing. The coke was delivered last Friday and gives us some assurance of supply until another source can be located. Waterside will be selling coke to the wider public.
